Blueberry Production
Quinta da Cumieira Nova is an agricultural farm with 15,000 blueberry plants of 4 different species in both flavor and texture.
The Quinta produces around 50 tons of these delicious berries, which are harvested between the end of May and the end of August. This is the most intense period at the Quinta, however, during the remaining months there is a lot of work with various manual weeding, careful pruning of each tree, weeding the lines between the ridges and many others.
All production is developed according to very demanding global standards with the objective of sustainability of the entire production process.
This includes, for example, water management through rainwater reserves and an efficient irrigation system, as well as renewable energy in the use of photovoltaic panels, which makes the farm self-sufficient in energy terms.
Agricultural management is supported by specialized software that works in parallel with the meteorological station installed in the field and allows us to have exact data on soil and plant nutrients, whether in excess or lack. This system allows you to optimize resources, time and increase the production of each plant.
The production of Blueberries from Quinta da Cumieira Nova is controlled externally by entities that grant it various certifications such as Global Gap, Grasp and Integrated Production. These open the doors of export, with Quinta’s Mirtilis in several European countries.
